For the last Archipel release of 2006, Jesse Somfay makes his return to Archipel's digital series with "Of Ancestral Infernos and Lysergic Embers (Lost Tales of '03/'04)" which is a compilation of older unreleased tracks from 2003 and 2004 which he decided to let loose into the world after some gentle persuasion from boss man Pheek.
"Getting Some Sleep in Your Memories" is a sunny vignette which leads to "Stuck Somewhere Different than Before" which was brought on by strange and foreign journeys through cepia fogs and dark mossy woods chasing ideas that would eventually lead to the creation of the original version of "Small Pebbled Forest" which is more up front than the revised 2005 version but every bit as dreamy and full of flowing silky gossamer curtains of mist and light.
"This Matchbox is my Home" brings a more uptempo view of hazey summer mornings where the mind wanders beyond the horizon into its own territory. This territory shows itself again in "Charisma Dreams" where one can tell something is there on the edge of consciousness but is all too shy to come out from behind the curtains which are slightly more opened in "Arabica" but still lets the mystery keep to itself.
"Stringa Strapatta" takes one to a summery place where crystaline insects trill in the surroundings for days on end and twist into "Calea" with its strange green acidic funk. "Waking the Sunrise"'s modernized breezes drift across a land of spark lit fabric and transitions to "We Didn't Want to but We Did it Just the Same" where mystery is no longer mystery and its identity shows briefly and brightly.
